The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has announced that the 2009 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition will be held on April 4-8, 2009 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The annual event has added an extra day, April 4, for registration, pre-conference events and a sneak peek at the upcoming events and activities.
HIMSS is the leading organization for healthcare professionals. Founded in Chicago in 1961, HIMSS has become focused exclusively on providing resources to foster the “optimal use of healthcare information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare.”
The 2009 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition is considered to be a “must-attend” event for professionals in the healthcare IT industry. In addition to numerous exhibitions, workshops and seminars, HIMSS offers many opportunities for professionals on all levels to network, brainstorm, and socialize.
The possibility for making connections at HIMSS is practically endless. Pre-conference literature has shown that offerings include approximately 1,000 healthcare connections, representatives from 900 innovative companies, and 300 opportunities to educate and explore.
While seminars and workshops are invaluable learning tools, the true networking often takes place through special interest groups and social activities. HIMSS has many different special interest groups and has offered participants the opportunity to start their own SIG. Among those already organized are SIGs for professionals involved in Education, E-Health, Long Term and Post Acute Care, Offshore Opportunities, Pediatric Health Informatics & Technology (PHIT),
RFID, Project Management and Supply Chain Management as well as groups focused on Air Force CIOs and Small & Independent Consultants.
There are many events in which participants can network with leading industry colleagues, policy makers, analysts, equity contacts, and old friends. Among this year’s events are:
Opening Reception, 5K Fun Run/1 Mile Walk, Awards Banquet, Davies and Pinnacle Awards Reception, and the New Member Reception. Perhaps the most exciting event will be held on Tuesday evening. Participants have the opportunity to journey to the famous Navy Pier to take in an evening of music and entertainment featuring Las Vegas headliner André-Philippe Gagnon, dubbed “The Man of a Thousand Voices,” and 1964… the country’s top Beatles Tribute act.
